Nova Scotia Trip Home

Nova Scotia Trip Home :

So ahhhhh my Nova Scotia trip home! Edmonton friends if you haven’t seen Eastern Canada it is a must. I mean even though it’s like a bazillion dollars to fly across Canada? I could literally fly Edmonton to Honolulu and back! WHATS UP WITH THAT? Anyway, we will save my rant for flying across the country for another day. J feeeeel..  Speaking of which I should book my flight home for Christmas before it’s like $1300 or MAYBE HONOLULU INSTEAD! JK I need to see my FAMJAM. Ok moving along…

So my recent trip to Nova Scotia was a blast. I was home for two weeks and I soaked up every minute of it. My family is in Cape Breton, so I spent the majority of my time there. Cape Breton definitely moves at a slower pace. I’ve always been a city girl and I do love Halifax, but Cape Breton will always be near and dear to my heart. For those of you that don’t know, Cape Breton is a beautiful island in Nova Scotia with SWEEPING ocean views. Ugh, the ocean makes my skin oh so hydrated. Now that I’m back in Alberta my skin will now turn into a wrinkly boot. Don’t get me wrong I love Edmonton but who doesn’t love HYDRATED SKIN from the ocean?

During my time home, my family took a trip to the Cabot Trail. It was the perfect day. My dad passed away 5 years ago and there isn’t a second where I don’t think of his witty humor. I miss him dearly. We talked about Dad a lot that day and all of the wonderful memories we’ve had in the past. It really felt like he was there. It was truly a beautiful day and I will cherish it forever. If you wondering what the limit is to my mother playing Luke Bryan songs, THE LIMIT DOES NOT EXIST. Also, I remember changing my brother’s diapers and now they are basically MEN. Oh did I mention my brother Devon has his FULL LICENCE and a CAR? Ok, I’m ancient. Oh and now that Aaron is 15, Mom finally let him take his training wheels off his bike. #proudsister Maybe 16 is the year she will teach you how to cut the crust off your Bologna sandwich (ha he will get me back for this) Don’t worry we all have my fathers twisted humor. Besides spending the majority of my trip eating seafood, I really went home to stand in my Best Friends Wedding.  I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER FOR YOU.

“The moment I wake up

Before I put on my makeup

I say a little pray for you

While combing my hair now

And wondering what dress to wear now

I say a little prayer for you”

Belting out excessively over here……..ANYONE? Ok, moving along. So I listened to The Rankins (Cape Breton celebrities) watched my beautiful friend say I do, danced, drank OH BOY DID WE DRINK and created wonderful memories! During my time in Halifax, I spent a few days with my friend Carmen. FYI: Mussels at the Bicycle Thief in Halifax are the bomb.com. If you haven’t tried them, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? ok, I need to chill on the caps in this blog post ha ha. I swear I’m not yelling aggressively. Bicycle Thief in Halifax is probably my favorite restaurant.  Ever. Even though we were hungover pieces of crap the next day we still made it to Peggys Cove. Stillwell Beer garden really sneaks up on you when you end up at the dome on a Monday night. Also, I broke my two year “No Dome Streak” #domeishome  (Carmen’s idea obviously) So that is basically it! I wish I took more photos of this beautiful province but I was truly too busy enjoying my time home. Whoever I didn’t have time to see I apologize, I will be back soon. It’s really nice to put your phone down once in awhile and hear the waves crashing on the rocks. If you have any questions on Nova Scotia, feel free to reach out to me.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I have quite a few blog posts coming in the upcoming weeks so don’t forget to check back! Ps: Have you seen my Blog post with Allure by Chelsea and Sara Jewell Photography? Check it out here! We just recently did another shoot so I’ll add those photos when I have more time.

Much love,

xo, Shay

It’s hard to believe it’s May.

Heck, this time last year I was just getting settled in my new city. I had a casual cross-country journey in my Jetta with two cats, a dog, a Uhaul attached and a really handsome man. So, I just realized right now I’ve been in Alberta a year! Sheesh! Where does the time go?

Maybe I’ll do a blog post about how traveling with three animals in a car for a week made me realize I can truly conquer anything in this world. Ok, I’m totally kidding the animals were really easy and by New Brunswick, they straight up enjoyed the car #oldpros. I mean my dog Cam flew home with me from the Dominican, I’m pretty sure he can handle 50 hours in the car and a few hotels…Right?

And of course, I’m getting sidetracked as always. Did I mention I’m new to this blogging thing?

So TULIPS! The week before last I finally made my way to the Abbotsford Tulip Festival (Vancouver blog post to follow!). I used to live in British Columbia, so I have a lot of close friends there and I try to get there as much as I can. Now being only a province away the flights are a heck of a lot cheaper than flying from Halifax.

There is something about prancing around in a field full of tulips that makes my soul happy. It’s located about an hour outside of Vancouver but totally worth the drive. In my opinion, the Abbotsford Tulip Festival is the best way to celebrate spring. It’s been a long winter and this was my first official Alberta winter and I’m not quite sure I’ll ever get used to stepping outside and literally freezing your face off.

Don’t get me wrong I love Alberta but British Columbia is a place I’ll always hold near and dear to my heart. I’ve been dying to go to the tulip festival for awhile and I’m glad I finally made the trip, and it didn’t rain… YAY!

I brought my rain boots to Vancouver and thought I would be trendy and not wear them to the tulip festival. BIG MISTAKE… Although it was a gorgeous day the field was pretty darn muddy, bring your boots, friends. Side note: ruining my little brown boots was totally worth the views. Here are some photos of the beautiful tulip festival. Don’t worry, I didn’t add any of the photos with my mouth open and stringy mullet blowing in the wind.

Thanks so much for reading, have a lovely week!

Welcome to With Shaylene Marie

welcome to with shaylene marie

First and foremost, WELCOME!

Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog. It’s a lifestyle blog mostly because I don’t know what the heck I’m doing yet. Lifestyle means everything right? I named it With Shaylene Marie because It sounds a lot better than I lovecatsandlattes.com and shaylenecameron.com was already taken, DANG!

So, it will be like a cool adventure with me, hey?

I know I’ve been saying for months it’s “coming soon” because I’ve wanted to do a blog for the last year and I kept putting it off.

Life right? Well, not this time.

I’m humbled from all the lovely messages I’ve received on Instagram over the last few months asking when my blog will be launched and the ideas you’ve given me! You motivated me to finally get the courage to do this. My blog will be an authentic representation of my life, the ups, the downs and all that jazz in between. It took me a long time to realize that everything about myself that is different is what truly makes me unique and special.

Since I’m just starting out and new to the blogging scene what do you want me to write about? Home? Relationships? Beauty? Food? Get in touch and tell me more!

I’m going to use this blog as a creative outlet for cafes, food, travel and a little humour of course. Humour is always good for the soul. So, I’m currently listening to “Deanna Carter – Strawberry Wine” and hanging out with my cat contemplating what to write. Speaking of wine, I should grab a glass. Flash back to two years ago when I only drank rosé or the sweetest pinot grigio… now, I’ll take the strongest red please.

The fact that you are reading this really melts my butter (on my gluten free avo toast) – no, seriously thank you!! Okay, I’m rambling… So, I have a website. This is exciting.

Stay tuned humans.

Ps, giveaway coming soon!
